| CHIEF COMPLAINT | Healthcare workers are tired. Like, really tired. |
| HPI | Onset: the first shift. Duration: ongoing. Aggravated by: “I looked it up online,” call lights, the phrase “my pain is a 12.” Relieved by: nothing, historically. |
| PLAN | Play a 16-bit arcade fighter as a hippo in scrubs. Repeat PRN. |
WHAT IS THIS
Hippo Violation is an affectionate, nostalgic, 16-bit-style arcade fighter for nurses, doctors, techs, medics, and everyone else who has ever been asked for a turkey sandwich during a code. You play Hippocrates, RN, fourteen hours into a twelve-hour shift, holding the line in the ER waiting room.
Health bars are pain scales. Knockouts are discharges. Running out the clock means the patient left without being seen. Continues are subject to prior authorization.
HOW TO PLAY
It isn't hard. That's the point. You've had a long shift.
| MOVE | Arrow keys |
|---|---|
| JUMP | Up |
| HIT | Space. Keep mashing it: punch, punch, kick, then a finisher that fits the distance: Bedpan Toss from far away, NPO Chomp from mid-range, Defib Uppercut up close. |
| PAUSE / MUTE | Enter / M |
On a phone, a stick (push it up to jump) and a HIT button appear on screen. Old-school players: Z / X / C plus ↓↘→, →↓↘ and ↓↙← motions still work, and holding back still blocks.
THE FINE PRINT
The hippo is a hippo. The name is a pun. No protected health information was used, disclosed, or harmed in the making of this game, and every patient in it is a composite of the ones we all secretly love anyway.
